Our veterinary team at Vet4HealthyPet Animal Hospital is able to care for pets in most emergency situations. We are passionate about animal care and are proud to provide cats and dogs with quality medical care when they need it most.
What To Do In A Pet Emergency
If your pet is experiencing a veterinary emergency, take the following steps:
- Call Ahead If You Can - For care during our usual business hours, contact us right away. For after-hours treatment, call one of the emergency animal hospitals shown above to tell them that you are coming.
- Follow Instructions Provided - When you call to inform the emergency pet hospital that you are on your way, they might provide you with instructions to help you provide your pet with first aid or to make them more comfortable. Carefully follow these instructions.
- Remain Calm - Keep calm and be extra careful around your cat or dog. When pets are in pain, they often respond negatively towards anyone trying to help them and may bite or scratch.
- Bring Your Pet In For Care - Don't place yourself in harm's way! Safely take your cat or dog to our Orange veterinary clinic or one of the after-hours emergency vet locations above.

- Do I need to call ahead?
Vet4HealthyPet Animal Hospital can provide cats and dogs with emergency and urgent veterinary care during our usual clinic hours. We always recommend calling us in advance if you are able, however, we realize that in emergency situations it isn't always possible.
If we can't fit your furry companion into our schedule, we suggest visiting one of the after-hours emergency vet locations listed above.
- When is your clinic open?
Our veterinarians are able to see emergency cases during our normal business hours:

- What situations require emergency veterinary care?
Below are examples of situations that require immediate care:
- Obvious signs of pain or extreme anxiety
- Fractured bones or severe lameness
- Severe bleeding or bleeding that doesn't stop
- Bleeding from nose, mouth, rectum, or blood in the urine
- Choking, difficulty breathing, or continuous coughing/gagging
- Refusal to drink for 24 hours or more
- Severe vomiting or diarrhea; 2+ episodes in 24-hours
- Seizures and/or staggering
- Inability to urinate or pass feces, or pain associated with urinating or passing feces
- Injuries to the eye(s)
- Your pet has ingested something poisonous (such as antifreeze, xylitol, chocolate, rodent poison, etc.)
- Heat stress or heatstroke
- Unconsciousness
- How long will we have to wait to see the vet?
Our Orange animal hospital operates similarly to a human doctor's office—it could be unpredictable, and you might need to wait.
We are unable to predict the cases we will see and when they will arrive. If you can, call ahead to find out if we are able to provide your cat or dog with emergency care.

- What happens if my pet needs to stay in the hospital?
Some veterinary emergencies require intensive overnight care. At Vet4HealthyPet we are unable to provide overnight care. If your pet requires this service, we may refer you to one of the emergency vet clinics detailed above.
- What types of animals do you treat?
Our emergency veterinarians are mostly experienced in the care of cats and dogs, but will see other small animals, such as birds and rodents, in serious situations.
